We also know you don’t have all day to read long essays about nutrition, so we’ve broken it down for you, in a few fun pictures & pointers that will neither make you snooze nor will make you lose when it comes to assuring the healthy growth and development of your baby.

& because MomsKnowBest, here are few tips from our chief mom that get the job done and result in not only a healthy, but also a happy child :

1. What’s the one thing that all babies are attracted to right from the very beginning? COLOR. Wondering how that’s connected to nutrition? When it comes to your baby, you got to learn to join the dots! Each of the different colours of fruits and vegetables contain different combinations of nutrients. Begin to associate colours with creating fun objects like a rainbow or a unicorn for your baby’s meal. Try to put as many different colours of food on their plate as possible, to ensure a huge variety of nutrients using this little game. Explaining it to them, that this is how the rainbow or the unicorn eats & that’s why they are so colourful. Now, who would say no to that?

2. How many different colours can your baby get on their plate? A star for each time they cross the number 5. Winning makes them so excited, & in the process they will weave a healthy habit without sulking too much! WIN WIN! Babies are quick learners, they pick on what they see in no time. So you have to make sure that both mom & dad eat their greens and relish them. Looking excited and making happy sounds while eating, because as a parent, it is important to lead by example.

3. Let’s go back in time when we were babies. We all raised an eyebrow when we had to eat a few foods, so does your baby. Here is where the challenge begins. You can slice up any challenge real nice & we know it. So try different things & get creative in the kitchen – make food FUN. Cut food into funny shapes, make faces out of the food and enjoy the process of feeding them & watching them giggle

4. Our favourite hack is storytelling around food. Tell them that if they eat that piece of broccoli, they could get as big as a tree. One out of 100 broccoli eating kids did turn into trees, it is a very well-guarded secret over the centuries & they could be ‘The Chosen One’ (cc : potter heads.) Throw in their favourite book characters to make it easy, on days you can’t cook up stories.

5. Another important and often-ignored aspect of healthy nutrition is: HYDRATION. Babies are active, always on the move and undergoing growth and development at a rapid rate. Their bodies are expending water faster than we think, and it’s important to ensure they’re always hydrated. Which is why they should consume about 1 TO 2 litres of water on a daily basis depending on their ageto maintain their optimum health and avoid dehydration. Our hack here, is to give them some lime water; so that it gives them Vitamin C as well as increases their water intake & also gives them a yummy taste along with the much needed dose of hydration.

6. You can also get them involved in the food shopping. This is a great way of killing two birds with one stone. You can inculcate the importance of only consuming fresh supplies & also get them used to being around you while you run an errand. Like we said earlier, they watch and learn. Discuss where the fruits and vegetables come from. Let them choose what they want to eat for their meal, from a chosen group of fresh produce you bought together. Your baby loves to be involved in decision making, so give them that super power!!
