Tips to rekindle romance for new parents

How to spark up the romance with your partner once you take on the role of new parents?

Having a baby turns your life upside down in more ways than one. Things that you never gave importance to are now out of reach. Yes, there is an overwhelming sense of joy with your baby, and the way you feel towards your partner now that you have produced a human being together is unexplainable. Yes, motherhood is amazing, but you do not have enough time with your partner, and it is obvious that both you and your partner miss those good old days of endless romance. Those 2 am conversations with your partner are no longer cute, they are now to wake them up and take over the diaper duty so that you don’t turn towards the road of insanity (thanks to your no sleep motherhood routine you have been pulling off way too much). Or to just weep so damn hard because you are exhausted and you need to vent.

The emotions of a new mother are off the roof. But what often goes unnoticed is the father’s constant FOMO. Your husband who was the centre of your world is now living on the outskirts, thanks to the new centre of the world, your baby. We know it sounds funny, but sometimes the new father misses getting all the attention from you. If they say this to your face, it’s fair to want to punch them because your struggles are not first world problems as their complaint of not seeing as much baby poop as you.

Being a new mother required constant sensitivity towards striking that balance. You don’t want your husband to feel left out of the diaper puddle you now live in, and let’s face it moms: you’ve got this, but you could use some help & a nap. The empathizing ladies at MKB, put on their thinking caps as to how to kill two birds with one stone, and leave you refreshed? Here is what we came up with:

1. Call in for those favours, now is when you need them for a much-needed date night.

When was the last time you dressed up in a stunning number and put on your favourite shade of lipstick, held your husband's hand and got out to have a yummy meal that doesn’t come out of the take out box or isn’t cold as ice? Trade-in for the favours you deserve, ask your mom or MIL to babysit your munchkin. Unwind with your Mr. and catch up on all the conversations and flirting, you will feel like yourself soon. How refreshing and unwinding does this sound?

2. Baby is off to a nap at 2 am? Get out of the house and take a moonlight stroll.

Escapes are the new mantra for romancing as new parents. While the baby is napping after what feels like hours of effort, you two have earned some downtime. Carry your baby monitor, wear your slippers and step out to breathe the fresh air. We know in your head you are counting down to the time the baby is going to wake up. It could be 5 minutes or 50, it’s unpredictable. But that’s the thrill. Talk or let the silence do the talking, whatever you two need at the moment to feel the love.

3. Plan a cosy movie night in.

This is a no brainer plan, and our favourite. Pick out your favourite movie, pop some popcorn in a jiffy, and voila. Now, the movie might be interrupted a couple of times with baby duties, but that’s okay. Watch a rom-com to lighten the vibe, and stuff the popcorn tub in your faces.

MKB Pro Tip: Call for a sitter or your MIL/Mother/Friend/Sister to look after your baby for 2-3 hours while the movie lasts for some uninterrupted magic.

4. Go for a picnic at your favourite park in the neighbourhood.

Romancing doesn’t always need to be just the two of you. Take your baby in a stroller to the park in your neighbourhood with your husband on a Sunday morning. Pack some snacks and soak on the sun, while catching up on conversations and giggles with the new family.

5. Spa date for the win.

New parents are exhausted constantly. What better way to rekindle the romance, than catching up on bonding while gifting your body the much-needed pampering with your beau. Relax those muscles and your mind together, you two deserve it.

Ladies, it's important to adapt to the new life with basic efforts. Give your husband the much-needed attention and love to make him realise he is always going to be your number 1 love! Here is a video of a real couple to give you some much needed inspo! Check it out.
